Former Nigeria International and 2-time 2nd Runner-up of the CAF African Player of Year Austin Okocha has suggested no Nigerian was exceptional in 2015 to make the final 3-man short list of the top prize at Wednesday’s CAF Award Gala night.
Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang beat four-time winner, Yaya Toure to the honors, while Ghana’s Andre Ayew finished as third.
Speaking with footballlive.ng, Okocha said the situation should come as a ‘challenge’ to Nigerian footballers.
” We have to call a spade a spade, its about time and I’ll keeping it real. I don’t think any of players at this moment deserves to be there; because we’ve been struggling recently recently.
” I think this should be a challenge to us, to make sure that next we have one of us there.”
